Mr. Jasem Yousef Essa AlObaid

The late Mr. Jasem Yousef Essa AlObaid was a Kuwaiti national, born in 1931. He was educated in Pune (India) and worked in Bombay (India) for many years as an exporter, but later returned to his home country, Kuwait, and joined the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) in 1959.

Mr. AlObaid worked in various senior positions in the Commercial Department, last of which was Head of the Commercial Department. Mr. AlObaid also served as Chairman of the Tender Board in KOC. After the amalgamation of Stores and Stock Control with the Commercial Department, Mr. AlObaid was appointed as Assistant General Superintendent Material Department. Subsequently, he served as General Superintendent Materials, and finally as Consultant for Commercial Affairs to the top management of the Kuwait Oil Company. He resigned in 1974 to devote his time to his personal business.

Mr. AlObaid was also involved as a partner in the Euro-Kuwait Investment Company, where he held the positions of Deputy Chairman and CEO until 1977.

Mr. AlObaid passed away in December 2003.

Mr. Ahmed Saleh Ali AlShaya (Managing Partner)

Mr. Ahmad Saleh Ali AlShaya is a Kuwaiti businessman, born in Kuwait in 1935. He is a member of AlShaya family, a prominent Kuwaiti family. Mr. AlShaya is a founding partner of TGTC and continues to play an active role in the company’s management.

In addition, he is also:

(1) A former board member of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

(2) A former board member of the National Bank of Kuwait.

(3) A former member of several leading commercial and investment companies.

(4) A former agent (in the early 1980s) for the FIAT vehicle company in Kuwait.

Mr. Yousef J. AlObaid (Managing Partner)

Mr. Yousef J. AlObaid, born in May 1961, is a banking and regulatory sector veteran who has accumulated 38 years of experience. He holds a BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami and is a graduate of Harvard University’s General Management Program.

Mr. AlObaid served as Deputy Governor and Board Member of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) from May 2012 to May 2022. Previous positions held by Mr. AlObaid include that of Executive Director: Supervision at the Central Bank of Kuwait, General Manager: Corporate Finance at Boubyan Bank, and General Manager: Corporate Credit at the Commercial Bank of Kuwait.

Mr. AlObaid is also a former member of the Monetary Stability Committee and the Financial Stability Committee, two high-level internal advisory committees that guide decision-making on monetary stability and financial stability, respectively.

During his time as Deputy Governor between May 2012 and May 2022, Mr. AlObaid directly oversaw all day-to-day operations of the CBK and played a pivotal role in upgrading its institutional capabilities.

As Deputy Governor, Mr. AlObaid has represented the CBK in various government agencies, national committees and technical teams. He was a member of the committees concerned with Public Debt Management and Sovereign Ratings Governance. He also represented the CBK internationally, including at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), credit rating agencies, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), with diplomatic attachés addressing financial and economic issues, and in public fora.

In addition, Mr. AlObaid was a board member and chair of several companies supporting the banking ecosystem, as well as the insurance and real estate sectors.

Mrs. Mona J. AlObaid

Mrs. Mona J. AlObaid, born in 1962, is a holder of a BSc in Chemical Engineer from Kuwait University. Mrs. AlObaid had a career spanning 27 years, of which 21 years were in the oil sector. Mrs. AlObaid held a number of leadership positions and board memberships in Kuwait’s oil sector companies. Additionally, Mrs. AlObaid was part of the Kuwait’s Minister of Oil delegation to OPEC.

Mrs. AlObaid climbed up the ladder of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), where she served as the Deputy Managing Director of International Marketing. Prior to that, Mrs. AlObaid was the Manager of International Supply. In her time as a pivotal member of the KPC leadership team, Mrs. AlObaid supervised and participated in some of the pivotal projects for the Kuwait oil sector such as:

  • The study and revamping of Export facilities of Petroleum Products at Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) (the North Pier)
  • The study and Construction of New Export facilities for Petroleum Products at KNPC (the South Pier)
  • The study to export Eocene crude oil produced from joint operation in Wafra through KNPC export facilities rather than Al-zour export facilities of Chevron.
  • The study to revamp KNPC refineries (Clean Fuel Project CFP)
  • The study and Construction of New Export facilities for crude oil for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) (the Single Buoy Mooring (SBM)
